Based in New City, New York, AMA Laboratories, Inc., is a clinical testing lab that also performs marketing services for its clients. One of the newer services of AMA Laboratories, Inc., is the generation of 3D-printed products.
This 3D printing technology has made possible the printing of many things, but in the cosmetics testing arena, it can reduce the reliance on animal testing. For a long time, the issue of animal testing has been controversial, but it might disappear with the advent of this technology.
Reports in 2015, 2017, and 2018 highlight the progress of the technology that could allow printers to replicate human skin. Tests performed in Madrid produced synthetic skin similar to all three layers of real skin.
This particular study mentions that printers could be used by pharmaceutical companies in place of animal skin. It would be a low-cost alternative to animal testing.
This advance would be welcomed by many who support animal rights. For years, these groups have protested the cruel treatment of animals in laboratory tests.
